CAKE RECIPE NEEDED!! like one you would order and pay a lot for from coles or woolies?

Its my friends birthday and we are throwing her a party but have run low on cash when it comes to the cake.

I need a recipe for cakes like what you would order at Coles with the writing on it etc. I think it is a sponge cake?? Im good for icing, just am stuck on the recipe.. How do they get that thin brown cake skin coating the whole cake?

Please Help!!!CAKE RECIPE NEEDED!! like one you would order and pay a lot for from coles or woolies?
All coles and woolies cakes are all machine made so there is little room for error in them, they are not too expensive how ever they are not as nice as a traditional home made cake.

Start with a base sponge recipe from a home cook book or google and depending on what flavour you want you add other thongs such as coco powder for chocolate and imitation vanilla Essence for vanilla, don't use real vanilla essence for the cake as it will be too over powering.

For the icing if you want one or the christmas cake style sheet icing you use marzipan or orchid icing which you can get from the supermarket for about 5 bucks, you just colour it by adding food dye or coco. If you want a traditional butter icing you just cream the butter and icing sugar to desired consistency and add flavourings or colour.

Writting can be done by purchasing writing gels from the cake isle or using piped butter icing.

The thin sheet that they use on the cakes at coles can be brought at cake stores but are a bit expensive

Carrot And Pineapple Cake

For the cake:

鈥?2 cups granulated sugar

鈥?1 1/3 cups vegetable oil

鈥?3 extra-large eggs, at room temperature

鈥?1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

鈥?2 1/2 cups plus 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour, divided

鈥?2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

鈥?2 teaspoons baking soda

鈥?1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt

鈥?1 cup raisins

鈥?1 cup chopped walnuts

鈥?1 pound carrots, grated

鈥?1/2 cup diced fresh pineapple

For the frosting:

鈥?3/4 pound cream cheese, at room temperature

鈥?1/2 pound unsalted butter, at room temperature

鈥?1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

鈥?1 pound confectioners' sugar, sifted

For the decoration:

鈥?1/2 cup diced fresh pineapple

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Butter 2 (8-inch) round cake pans. Line with parchment paper, then butter and flour the pans.

For the cake:

Beat the sugar, oil, and eggs together in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment until light yellow. Add the vanilla. In another bowl, sift together 2 1/2 cups flour, the cinnamon, baking soda, and salt.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Toss the raisins and walnuts with 1 tablespoon flour. Fold in the carrots and pineapple. Add to the batter and mix well.

Divide the batter equally between the 2 pans. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool completely in the pans set over a wire rack.

For the frosting:

Mix the cream cheese, butter and vanilla in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment until just combined. Add the sugar and mix until smooth.

Place 1 layer, flat-side up, on a flat plate or cake pedestal. With a knife or offset spatula, spread the top with frosting. Place the second layer on top, rounded side up, and spread the frosting evenly on the top and sides of the cake. Decorate with diced pineapple.
Just use a box cake mix like Duncan Heinz extra moist. The thin brown cake skin coating is likely a thin layer of rolled fondant. If you are not familiar with what fondant is then I would skip it since it is tricky to work with if you have never done it before. Just bake a cake and put a coating of icing on it and buy a tube of icing or a tube of gel (in the baking section) and use that to write on the cake. A tip to make the icing very smooth is to gently lay some paper towel over the frosting and smooth it onto the cake with your hands (very, very lightly). This will smooth out the frosting and leave a nice inprint on the cake.
fool proof way... from either supermarket buy a Betty Crocker Chocolate Cake Mix and make according to instructions.

For the thin layer of chocolate on top, melt cooking chocolate and butter over a pot of simmering water, say 150gm chocolate and 50gm of butter. Once cake is cool pour over the melted chocolate while holding the cake on the palm of your hand. All the excess will run off leaving a smooth even top. You might want to do this over the sink just don't drop you creation...
