Why does soda cake only work with diet soda (recipe is diet soda+cake mix)?

Because the cake mix already has sugar in it. You don't need any more sugar from the soft drink. Also, aspartame is broken down at high temps (like baking temps) so any sweetness it would add, artificial or otherwise, is no longer there.





I'm sure club soda or fizzy water would do the same as a diet soft drink.Why does soda cake only work with diet soda (recipe is diet soda+cake mix)?
I think it works with regular....they just say diet because it makes the cake with lower fat and calories
