Old cake recipe?....I remember the cake, not the name or recipe?

My mother had made a cake once when i was really young, but has since the forgotten the recipe. I remember this cake was a golden color, slightly crispy on the outside, but had a sauce that when with it. The sauce was was honey like or tasted of honey, i cant remember exactly but i remember this cake would absorb the sauce really well, like a sponge, but i don't know if it was a special type of sponge cake or something different...can anyone help?????Old cake recipe?....I remember the cake, not the name or recipe?

It might have been a regular old pound cake. Equal amounts by weight of sugar, flour, butter, and eggs. Mix well, bake. When the cake has cooled poke small holes in it and pour your honey mixture over it. Sometimes folks use a rum mixture with sugar.
