1 box Betty Crocker庐 SuperMoist庐 German chocolate cake mix
1 1/4 cup water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
3 eggs
1 bottle (1 oz) red food color
1 tablespoon baking cocoa
Frosting
1 1/2 cups white vanilla baking chips
2 1/4 cups Betty Crocker庐 Rich %26amp; Creamy vanilla frosting (from two 1-lb containers)
1. Heat oven to 350掳F (325掳F for dark or nonstick pans). Grease or spray bottoms only of two 8-inch round cake pans. In large bowl, beat cake ingredients with electric mixer on low speed 30 seconds; beat on medium speed 2 minutes. Pour into pans.
2. Bake and cool as directed on box for 8-inch rounds. Slice each cake layer in half horizontally to make a total of 4 layers.
3. In medium microwavable bowl, microwave baking chips uncovered on Medium (50%) 4 to 5 minutes, stirring halfway through microwave time. Stir until smooth; cool 5 minutes. Stir in frosting until well blended. Place 1 cake layer, cut side up, on serving plate; spread with 1 cup of the frosting. Repeat with second and third cake layers. Top with remaining cake layer, cut side down; frost with remaining frosting.

Red Velvet Cake
1 (18.25-ounce) package white cake mix
3 large eggs
1 1/3 cups water
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon red food coloring
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup butter, melted
2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
1/2 cup chopped pecans
Preheat oven to 350掳F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans. Line bottoms with wax paper.
Beat cake mix, eggs, water, mayonnaise and food coloring in large bowl with electric mixer on low speed 30 seconds, scraping bowl frequently. Beat on medium speed 2 minutes. Pour batter into prepared pans.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans. Immediately remove wax paper. Cool completely on wire racks.
Beat cream cheese and butter with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Gradually add sugar, beating well after each addition. Stir in pecans.
Spread cream cheese icing on top of one cake layer, place second layer on top and finish frosting entire cake.

2 ounces red food coloring

Directions
1)Preheat oven to 350.
2)Mix all ingredients in large mixing bowl.
3)Beat until well blended-- about 3 minutes.
4)Pour batter evenly into two greased and floured 8 or 9 inch round pans.
5)Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
6)Let cool in pan for 10 minutes.
7)Turn from pan and let cool completely.
8)Frost with cream cheese icing.
When I want a quickie, here's what I do! ;-)
Mix one box of German Chocoalte Cake mix according to package directions, EXCEPT sub 1 oz. of the water called-for with a 1 oz. bottle of red food coloring. Bake in two layers as box directs.
When completely cool, ice w/ cream cheese frosintg. Don't buy the canned stuff; ti's swill. It's super easy to make it homemade! Just let butter/cream cheese come to room temp.

1. PUT CAKE IN LARGE BOWL OF ELECTRIC MIXTURE. ADD EGGS, MILK AND 陆 CUP OF WATER AND BEAT FOR 1 MIN. AT LOW SPEED TO BEGIN TO COMBINE. TURN OFF MIXER AND ADD FOOD COLORING. BEAT 2 MIN. AT HIGH SPEED. GREASE AND LIGHTLY FLOUR A 13X9 GLASS BAKING DISH. POUR BATTER INTO PAN.
2. PLACE IN MIDDLE RACK OF OVEN AND BAKE UNTIL TOOTHPICK INSERTED IN MIDDLE COMES OUT CLEAN, ABOUT 30 MIN. REMOVE FROM OVEN AND LET COOL FOR AT LEAST 30 MIN. CAN BE STORED COVERED AT ROOM TEMP FOR UP TO 24 HOURS.
3. FROST CAKE WITH CREAM CHEESE FROSTING. SPRINKLE WITH NUTS.
All the recipes that came up when I did a search used a simple cake recipe, with an addition of food coloring and cocoa but none started with a mix. I'm sure theres one out there somewhere.Paula Deen has an easy recipe on Food Network website, I'd use her's. A southern cake made by a southern lady. By the way, that recipe referred to above is for Neiman Marcus chocolate chip cookies, an urban legend, not for red velvet cake.
There is a famous one floating around on the internet. Some lady was in a restaurant and loved the cake so asked for the recipe. She was charged several thousand dollars for this ';secrete'; recipe. Not knowing she was charged this she was obviously frustrated/upset and when the place wouldnt refund her money she posted it on the internet. Dont know the name of it but i heard good things.
There actually is a Red Devil cake mix out now. I don't remember what brand it is, but it's either Pillsbury, Betty Crocker, or Duncan Hines.
Betty Crocker or Duncan Hines makes a red velvet cake mix, so you could start and finish with it. Buy a couplatubsafrosting and you're good to go.
